What is the point of the 1.1.4 firmware iPhone update?

The logical rumor is that is in preparation for the impending release of the iPhone SDK, probably coming next Thursday. The fact that it was 162MB, but didn’t add any apparent new functionality also hints at this.

Presumably the iTunes software store will be rolled out with the SDK, so that you’ll be able to install native third-party applications.
