Looking for an English equivalent of the French "déroulement"?

I’m writing a letter of recommendation for someone, and I’m trying to say that this person was responsible for the smooth “unfolding” of events, in other words, making sure that these programmed events played out as they should. In French I would say the “bon déroulement (‘unrolling’) des événements”, but I can’t think of a graceful way of saying the same thing in English. I’ve already looked at dictionary translations. Ideas?
