How do I put this on my resume?

Asked by mowens (8403points) January 12th, 2010

Oh how to say this without putting myself in a google search for my career. :)

Ok, I work for a company, that contracts out to other companies, for various things. Much like a law firm, I have to be on top of billable hours.

That being said, I do a lot of different things for different companies. How would I put that on a resume?

Just break each task down. Like this; “Job functions include – ...” “Current position; contractor. Responsibilities include….., companies contracted to include…. You can list job responsibilities without going into too much detail. It’s best to include good outcomes though, like “Contracted x job for x company, resulting in increase of 37% sales for x department.” Or whatever.

Or you can put your employer as the company that you contract for. Then you can list Clients include (and name the companies that you have worked for recently. . . and Projects include (and name the types of projects that you worked on and any accomplishments that you had).

Definitely, as Marina says. The standard is to list the company for which you actually work. You can add a bullet point with the names of some of the companies for which you’ve contracted if they have some “resume radiance”. You could do something like:

Employer Name Date Started to Date Ended (or Present)

* list first career competency/action perfomed
* list second ” ”
* and so on for each skill/experience you want to highlight
* performed above listed contracted services for a variety of [you could put in a descriptive word or phrase here if you wanted to emphasize the size, importance or whatever of the companies] clients, including [list most “impressive” companies for which you’ve contracted here.

Or, another good approach is to, for EVERY company for which you’ve worked, before you list out bullet points of your accomplishments/duties, you can put a descriptive sentence describing the company. Such as:

Company Name Dates worked

A [size of company in terms of employees and/or revenue] contracted services firm, specializing in [list the types of contract work your employer specializes in].

Then list your bullet points.

I would name the companies….especially if they are impressive. Just write them all down and if you are still working or contracted to them….put as “present”.

From My Important Company as contracted to:
Lehman Brothers Mini-Mart (2005—present)

—Wrote a grant
—Organized a blah
—Drafted a bill blah

From my important company as contracted to:
Morgan Stanley Confectionary Company (2006–2008)

—-Designed blah
—Collated blah
—-Directed the blah

(Use action words when describing what you did and make it simple.)

I list the companies I work for and what I did for them underneath. This is a very good model…and just tweak it by amending it to show that your company sent you to the other companies….to do the work there.

Hope this helps….good luck!

Don’t use a resume’.... instead, just attach an array of business cards.

Come on, no one else uses the BCA?? (Business Card Array)
