Has anyone had any experience of zencart?

Asked by chaostheory (201points) January 31st, 2010

I am wanting to sell all my unwanted items, but want to avoid ebay. I was considering zencart – has anyone had any experience with using it, is it easy and efficient?

I have used it a lot..

But the thing is it is hard. You need a host, database, domain name, and you need to promote the site for people to see it. It really is kinda complicated and confusing to just sell some random stuff.

What ever happened to the garage sale on a Saturday?

Why avoid eBay? How can you do better than over 200 million international registered users? Any fees are well worth the exposure.

I would try Bonanzle.com
My good friend says she has made pretty good sales there.

Craigslist is awesome, particularly if theres a large city nearby

Ditto what @johnpowell said. I’ve used zen cart and made it work the way I wanted it to, but it’s a lot of work and pretty complicated – if you were setting up a store that you were going to continue running, I might recommend it – but for something short-term like this, it’s really not worth the time.

If you really want to avoid eBay, Craigslist is a good option (if you live somewhere that Craigslist is popular). If you go with that or a garage sale, you won’t have to deal with shipping either – people will come pick things up from you themselves (always a plus when selling a lot of stuff!)
