In Star Wars, why is the bartender at the Mos Isley spaceport cantina so hostile ("we don't serve their kind here") towards C3PO and R2-D2?

The establishment is so anti droid they have a device at the entrance that sounds an alarm when one tries to enter. Has anyone ever come across an explanation for this?
