My Macbook fails to go into standby when battery runs out.

Asked by rexpresso (922points) April 26th, 2010

It simply switches off, doesn’t shutdown or whatever. I lose any unsaved work. Additionally it switches off when the battery says it has about 5 or 4 minutes left, it just abruptly powers off. How can I solve this? Thanks.

chances are your battery isn’t calibrated properly. For awhile, my mac book would say it had a solid 30 minutes left and just abruptly shut down; caused me a lot of trouble with unsaved work to say the least. It happens all the time after awhile. You can check how healthy your battery is by using this useful little app

After that I recommend running your battery completely out, than recharging it with the laptop off or in sleep mode, then you should have a more accurate read on your battery life.
