Authors similar to John Fante?

Asked by pallen123 (1519points) July 3rd, 2010

I really enjoy fiction stories about Los Angeles and San Francisco or California in general—places I lived awhile. And I like the writing style of John Fante. I know he influenced Bukowski but I haven’t enjoyed Bukowski as much. Got any suggestions for authors that write about California set in the early half of the 1900’s? Thanks!

Raymond Chandler. He’s not very philosophical, but he paints a good picture of old LA.
