What would you call this?

An acquaintance comes up to you and starts a conversation. So you guys are talking, but every 30 seconds or so some random person, who you don’t know, comes up and starts whispering in your acquaintance’s ear. Said acquaintance listens intently, then turns to the random stranger and whispers something back. Then Acquaintance turns their attention back to you and the conversation that you were in the middle of—for about 30 second, then someone comes up and whispers in Acquaintance’s ear again. This goes on and on, right in front of you. You have no idea what, or who, they are talking about, but it must be fairly interesting because Acquaintance occasionally blurts out “OMG! SERIOUSLY???” But other than that, you’re left in the dark and totally ignored while these whispers sessions go on.

Would anyone even imagine doing such a thing? But if they did, what would you call it?
