How do things work?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) July 17th, 2010

I have been watching cable television, but have never watched a show that tells me how certain things are made or work. for example: how do they make dog food? i would love to see the inside of a dog food factory and how dog food is made. i am sure my bordie collie would also be interested. after all, its his food, not mine. also, how frozen tv dinners and pizzas are made. and, last but not least, how maunfacturers make and test condoms. these are just a few of my worldly unknowns. am i missing something on cable and what products being made interests you?

The Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs series shows the behind-the-scenes of just that- dirty jobs. Many of these jobs are along the lines of making dog food, although I’m not sure if they’ve ever done an episode specifically on that.

The Discovery Channel also used to have a series called How It’s Made, which is exactly what you’re looking for. I don’t think they still show it on TV but I’m sure you could find it online.

While I personally find this show rather obnoxious, the Food Network has a show called Unwrapped that covers how foods like frozen dinners are made.

There’s also at least one show on The History Channel that examines things of that nature.

Watching Unwrapped on The Food Network will make you think twice about eating processed food.

Oh look, there’s a four-foot gelatinous cube of tomato paste being added to the hopper…
