How much gold would you attempt to carry back to civilization?

How much gold do you try to take if any? You wake up to find you are in the middle of nowhere. A man in a suit tells you the deal is simple in the other room is 300lb of gold coins, you can take as little or as much as you want then walk back to civilization. To do that you would have to walk almost a whole day across a desert, then ford a river and climb over some steep foot hills. He tosses you 2 32oz canteens of water and a sack with one 12oz bag of chips, 3 power bars and an apple and tell you that you have to go, you can sit outside or walk to civilization but you can’t stay there. If you chose to take some of the coins before you left would the sheer weight of carrying the coins or the cash to weight ratio of the coins dictate how many you would try to take?
