Can I bring question from other sites to fluther?

Asked by Your_Majesty (8235points) July 31st, 2010

Ok,I think this question is more suitable for mods here and I hope they don’t mind if I prefer to make it as question rather than ask one of them in person(since I want to hear our flutheries opinion here too). So,basically I want to know would it be OK if I take question from other site and put it here as fluther’s question? (lets say, that I want to hear different opinion, perspective, etc,or maybe the question didn’t get enough/satisfying answers from that particular site, etc)

Will you(flutheries) answer the question if you knew that a particular question exist in other sites?

I rarely do this, when I did,I usually rephrase the question or change some detail(not fundamentally, just ‘outer aspect’) so people just can’t copy paste their answers. I usually ask this kind of question out of my primary necessity,I did that for curiosity and to see the quality of answers in each sites, that’s all.

Not a problem as far as I’m concerned.

I do all the time. Sometimes it’s my own question and I cross-post, but normally it’s a question I saw elsewhere and I want to get Fluther’s input on it – especially if it’s more of a discussion question on a non-discussion site.

As far as I know, everybody does it. I assume you mean because you want to see what kind of answers you can get here that you don’t get elsewhere, and not just to copy questions.

Sometimes I wonder if the copyright that other sites might have on content generated for them from users would enable them to give a websites that allowed their content to be cross-posted a really hard time. Then again, the amount of material is so vast, it seems difficult to try to do anything about it. Besides, the same questions get asked over and over again, so it seems like it would be a hard case to make.

Some of my questions here, I have also asked on another site. Some have been questions I’ve seen elsewhere or, more likely, inspired by but slightly different from questions I’ve seen elsewhere. I don’t think anyone here would object.

As long as you’re not plagiarizing, I don’t see why not.

I ask on Askville and here. I move my questions back and forth.
