Why does my DVR record things I do not want recorded?

Asked by Aster (20023points) September 9th, 2010

I look over what I have recorded and every time I see shows I have no interest in having been recorded. Why the heck is this happening and how do I fix it?

Sounds like you may want to change what you have programed. Is this a new DVR or did you buy it used?

hi, it was bought new a few years ago. thanx!

I never programmed the unwanted shows-honest!!!

@Aster Perhaps you should take it back to where you bought it and see if they can figure it out!

This has happened to us occasionally, too. It seems to be a problem with our cable service’s guide, rather than the DVR. Sometimes, the guide will list one show or movie when what actually airs at that time is something completely different. So, we might decide to record an episode of House, but instead end up with a recording of America’s Got Talent. Very frustrating.

Interesting, augustlan. thanks.

I know when I owned a TiVo, it would record shows I hadn’t asked for but that it thought I might be interested in, based on my ratings and viewings of other shows. But it would treat these recordings as low priority and remove them if it had to make room for a show I specifically wanted. Could this be what’s going on?

@L2G I don’t really know. Sometimes it records 9 minutes of a show I’m not interested in. )-:
