Is there any good software running a political campaign?

I'd prefer open source, but I'd like to know about anything that's out there. Specifically, it should effortlessly manage volunteers, events, contacts, documents, etc.

I realize this answer is coming a bit late, but I just stumbled upon this question. I actually work for a software company that does just what you’re asking for. At the risk of sounding like a sales person (I’m the data girl here!), please check out our website: www.completecampaigns.com. It sounds like you’d be most interested in our BackOffice program, which manages contacts, a calendar, communications and even financial info. Hope this helps! Jen :)
