You've read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, but did you read Bored of the Rings?

Asked by Ben_Dover (4213points) September 12th, 2010

Bored of the Rings is the Harvard Lampoon parody of the LOTR trilogy.

“Once…Long ago, there was written a book
which did revolutionize the literary genre
which we know as “high fantasy”...

It also made its author, a Mr. J.R.R. Tolkien, a household name
and his publishers filthy stinking rich…

With this fact in mind, the Harvard Lampoon, in the
yeare of our Lord 1969, put together an epic parody
which they felt certain would be just as beloved,
just as enduring, and which would also net
them big, scrummy wadges of cash…

They were wrong…

But what they had managed to create
will go down in history as one
of the greatest cult classics of
satire ever created…

The name by which this infamous epic
would forever be known was: Bored of the Rings!

If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit. Yeah I’ve read it. It’s funny, but only to a die hard LOTR fan; it’s a little too juvenile for the average reader. Some of the scenarios are hilarious, I must admit – the nazgul dressed up as a waitress at the Prancing Pony was genius.

@FactFromFictionTruthFromDictio How about when the nazgul can’t cross into Rivendell because they don’t have the toll fare?

Or Dildo Buggins…

And how about when Frito and Spam run in to some hippies who give them “magic beans?”
