I love my jailbroken iPod. Mines a first gen, the boyfriends is a second gen.

I love what Cydia has to offer. You can get themes, all different kinds of stuff to customize, and there’s tons of sources so you can find even more stuff.

You can download any app for free so long as it’s there (which mostly all of them are, give or take some new apps) from the installulos app. It’s super easy, and usually super fast, depending on your internet speed.

You can also still download the free apps from the app store, and the regular apps that cost money. A lot of people usually download whatever app they want, free from installulos, and if they like it, they’ll buy it from the app store. I don’t, does that make me a douche?

Any other questions, let me know!

does anyone know where you can jailbreak a first gen iphone with 3.0 on it? I think the release for that is still in testing right?

I just jailbroke my ipod a couple weeks ago, I absolutely love it.

Tink's avatar

I don’t have the gut to jailbreak my iPod

chelseababyy's avatar

@johnny0313x Mine has 3.0 and is jailbroken!

J0E's avatar

@Tink1113 I felt the same way, I was shaking while I was doing it, but it was actually very easy and the actual jailbreak was over in like two minutes.

If you ever want to do it this is the tutorial I followed, I found it very helpful. Plus, always remember if something goes wrong or you don’t want it jailbroken anymore you can simply restore it back and it’s like nothing ever happened.

Tink's avatar

@J0E Thanks! So I can do it and then install 3.0 on it?
Or do I do it before?

J0E's avatar

@Tink1113 You have to have your iPod running 3.0 before you jailbreak (you can either buy it or download it from a torrent site) but if you don’t have to run 3.0, the jailbreak will work with whatever you are running right now.

Tink's avatar

@J0E Yeah I’m gonna buy it. Then I might jailbreak it. Thanks again

J0E's avatar

@Tink1113 Cool, let me know if you need any help.

Tink's avatar

@J0E I’ll consider it :)

chelseababyy's avatar

@Tink1113 It’s super easy! If you ever need help let me know. I could do it with my eyes shuts.

Tink's avatar

@chelseababyy Haha ok I’ll let you know too

We are a generous bunch aren’t we?

chelseababyy's avatar

We most definitely are :]

Tink's avatar

Yeah you guys should post like a group of jailbreaking delinquents

willbrawn's avatar

I jailbroke mine and it’s a 3g 3.0. I found it unstable, especially the iPod function for some reason.

Google pwnage and you can find the instructions to jailbreak. Good luck.

chelseababyy's avatar

@willbrawn You probably messed it up _

jokes :D

I’ve kept my jailbroken iPhone on 2.2.1 because of troubles trying to jailbreak my boyfriend’s 3G w/ 3.0. We tried first with the unofficial release a month ago, and now it won’t complete the jailbreak with the official one. I think we may have come close to bricking it a few times. Is Redsnow my only option, or has the DevTeam or other people come out with something else more like PwnageTool?

willbrawn's avatar

@chelseababyy such a funny girl : )

chelseababyy's avatar

@willbrawn Lols. You know it.

chelseababyy's avatar

Get 3.0

Then go HERE for windows.

If you need mac. You can find it on the main page of jailbreakitouch,com

thank you and have a nice day

I like it jailbroken. Cydia has some useful applications. Without jailbreaking I wouldn’t be able to use my iPhone properly… since there was no region format for my country (ie, in my phone i had numbers with country code, while the call didn’t appear with the country code .. and the phone didn’t recognize the contact, just displayed the number .. a fix from Cydia helped)

Further on, I have been able to sync Calendar with Google Calendar with an applicaiton from Cydia (couldn’t find one in AppStore)

Atop of everything, I use it because iTunes has no support for our country, so I can’t buy a thing there .. which means that I can only resort to Cydia .. and other cracked applications.

J0E's avatar

Speaking of jailbreaking, I just tried to download Installous and some other Hackulo.us stuff and I killed my iPod. Now I have to restore.

Tink's avatar

@J0E That sucks dude!!!!

So when you have it jailbroken you can only use it with Cydia, installous, and other hacks? Not iTunes?

J0E's avatar

No, no, no, you still use iTunes, you can still use the App Store, Cydia is like a second App Store. Istallous is something I downloaded from Cydia. I was being stupid and didn’t really know what I was doing.

Tink's avatar

Oh ok then I might do it

J0E's avatar

When you do the jailbreak it will look like nothing happened at first, the only difference will be a new app will appear which is Cydia. There are two “Jailbreak App Stores” to choose from Cydia or Icy, it will ask which one you want when you jailbreak. Most people choose Cydia but you can choose whichever you want (don’t install both).

Tink's avatar

If I do I’ll go with Cydia, I see alot of people know about it

LanceVance's avatar

That’s because Icy is a relatively new application and from what I understood, it’s a successor to the good ol’ Installer

johnny0313x's avatar

well i jailbroke my iphone 2g with 3.0 on it….i have cydia not icy….though im curious about icy…works fine…sometimes things crash(cydia stuff) but I think thats because not everything is up to date with 3.0

Overall I like it…but i’m a little annoyed by the prices of some of the apps on cydia..the app store is cheaper for alot of things but then again cydia offers things the app store doesnt. Winterboard is a fun thing and quicktxt(which cost money) is nice.

chelseababyy's avatar

@johnny0313x Why not use installulos?

johnny0313x's avatar

What is installulos?

Also does anyone use that quick text app that lets you do a txt quick by pressing the up volume button…my friend got it for free somehow but I don’t know how he did it lol.

J0E's avatar

@chelseababyy Installulos may be fine, it just gave me problems.

chelseababyy's avatar

@johnny0313x Installulos is the staple for any jailbroken iPod/Phone. It’s the app you use to get whatever free apps you want.

J0E's avatar

How should I get installous, the way I did it before was not kind to me.

wildpotato's avatar

I just unjailbroke my iPhone, and I couldn’t be happier. It runs quickly again! And doesn’t kick me out of applications randomly! And the battery lasts longer. I see now why doing this is not recommended by Apple – more than for the legal disadvantages and monetary loss in the free cydia apps, the jailbroken iPhone runs like a piece. Just not a fast enough processor, I guess. It makes sense that Apple wants everyone to think of it as a magic little machine, not fallible like regular computers.

chelseababyy's avatar

@wildpotato I unjailbroke mine, and then installed 3.0 then rejail broke it, and it runs fater than ever.
