How much do you pay your dogsitter?.

Asked by Wander (44points) September 16th, 2009

I have never had a dog sitter before. Before we moved, if we went away we boarded the dogs (2 dogs) with the doggie daycare. It was 45/day for both dogs.

she came friday night and stayed through sunday am. she was not here during the day saturday. The cat was self sufficient. She had to check food and water for a chicken in the garage and open the door to the run for the chickens outside but did not have to feed or water them.

she’s coming to babysit today and i need to pay her for the weekend. I’m not sure what is reasonable. She’s no help when I asked her what she charges.

I would pay what you pay the kennel at least.

Great question! I have to pay two young teens for coming over and letting the cat out and back in everyday and check food. $5/day?

Wow! If I could get someone to come let Molly out and feed her for $5.00 a day I would hire 5 people!

I take mine to the kennel who is also my Vet.

$15 a day including food. My dog loves it there.

I’m lucky. My neighbor is kind of my pet’s godfather, so he does it for free. He comes in twice a day to walk feed and water everyone, and in the evening he hangs out to keep them company, and watches a movie or 2 on my Roku. We usually take him out for dinner or do something nice in return for him when we get home.

@ChazMaz, I wish I could find $15 per say! I’m paying $45, although they call it “luxury” boarding. It just means she’s in a room, not a cage.

My vet wont put the dogs in a cage. They get their own space to move around in. Like a run. But since the booarding is also a vet they seem to always find someting to try to sell you on. A due shot, bath, and such.

Locally, we pay $15 a day for the first animal, with $10 for each additional animal for a professional “pet sitter” to come around to the house (and they are supposed to come twice a day, hang out a bit, and email or text updates). Well-meaning teenage neighbors get $10 a day.

The pet sitter who comes to the house twice a day charges $25 a day, which is why I don’t use her. The kennel with the dog run, so the dog can choose inside or out charges $18 a day.

@Judi – I wasn’t clear in my answer. We went away twice – one young teen per vacation and we were only gone a few days each time. Essentially the kids just let cat out in the morning and back in in the afternoon. I asked one to roll trash can to the curb and asked the other to change the water in bucket – neither kid did the additional task. So should I pay $5/day or $10/day?
