San Francisco driving: What's the fastest route from the Golden Gate Bridge to Mission and 20th?

Are common sense, habit, and Google maps correct in saying Lombard to Van Ness / South Van Ness? Or is there a sneaky faster way that doesn’t poke along Lombard and Van Ness?

I go on Sunday mornings, a low traffic time, and Thursday evenings, which can be traffic-y.
