What does having faith mean to you?

I’m not talking about in the religious sense of having faith that there is a God or an afterlife or whatever one might believe. I mean in a more practical sense, applying to the things we all endure in life. In one of their definitions that does not include religion, dictionary.com says faith is “a belief that is not based on proof.” In your life what does the idea of “having faith” mean?
