How can i make quality friends at school?

I seem to realize I need to make some friends. I’m new around L.A. because I just moved here to attend school and I need to make some friends especially people who are of my major. I’m not looking to party or things of that sort, just study partners and people of that group… GEEKS? or maybe cool people who study often.
