Illegal to use friend's DEP ID?

My friend who just got shipped out to basic gave me his DEP ID. This ID is not a real military ID (since he was not officially a soldier) but says the persons name, branch of service, etc. A lot of places accept it as a military ID and will give him a military discount. Is it illegal to use this DEP ID and get military discounts?

Dont give me “blah blah its morally wrong blah blah.” The question is “is it against the law to use the DEP ID”
