Why would a male person be taking estrogen regularly?

I know someone who claims he takes estrogen once daily. Whatever could it be for?

I’m simply dying of curiosity and I feel it would be an inappropriate question to ask him, especially considering I don’t know him that well. I do know that the person in question has GERD. Could it have anything to do with that?

What possible medical applications of estrogen could a male use?
