Do you think the tribulation will be shorter than seven years?

Most people say that the great tribulation will last seven years. They calculate this using mostly the books of Daniel and Revelation. Yet in Matthew chapter twenty-four verse twenty-two it says that “if those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.”
Do you think that maybe this means that the traditional seven years will be cut short? Comments welcome.
