Would you wear an outfit that looked somewhat childish to a dinner party?

I’ve been out and about, searching long days for a nice dress, but there just hasn’t been any so far that I’d like to spend my money on. The dresses that I currently own have already been worn to events, and those pictures are up on facebook. I don’t want to wear those dresses again, and so now I have a dilemma.

Today I found a dress in my closet… my auntie made it for me when I was younger… maybe 13 or so. It’s kind of funny that I would still have this dress, and that the dress still fits… but it does!! (I’m now 18)

It doesn’t look THAT childish, but it definitely does not make me look sleek or mature either. The dress is just more so… cutesy? I’m not sure how to describe it..

I do have other choices, but I was hoping to wear this dress that my aunt made..

My friend lent me a few of her dresses, and out of them, I found that I really liked her black dress. It’s plain but spiffy. It’s a dress with two fat straps, the back goes criss cross, and the dress length ends above the knees a few inches, and the dress is tight.

So, what should I do? Wear my nice red dress that my aunt made me—that looks somewhat childish, or my friend’s sleek black dress?

OH, one more thing; Usually I do not like to borrow people’s things, as I feel uncomfortable doing so. Constantly I will be thinking “this isn’t mine… I must be careful” etc..

Now, which one do you think I should wear?

What would you do in my situation?
