Could, should, Spirituality be considered as a form of Technology?

You know, like hypnotism or meditation… Could prayer, trance, incense, ritual, shrines, talisman, hymns, wands, earth stones, dance, sacred oils, seance and sacraments be considered as a technology, a tool, to pursue a purpose that otherwise could not be achieved without them?

Even if that purpose was false… and the tools only allowed the user to deceive themselves, or bring about comfort and inner wholeness?
