New Yorkers: What restaurants or must see shops do you recommend for someone staying in Manhattan (for work) for a week?

Coming to NYC early in January (after the snow has cleared I hope!) for work and would like some advice on places you love in the city.
I’ll only have evenings to grab a meal and perhaps shop. I’m looking for shops selling locally made stuff & restaurants that are wonderful / comforting and NOT chains.
