Is there a way to hide yourself from someone on FB that you're not friends with, so they can't find you if they search for you?

My friend’s son seems to have hid himself from her so she could not find him at all, searching for him by putting his name in the search bar and by searching in her daughter’s FB friends.
How is this done?
