What are some associations your brain has with certain smells?

Inspired by MarineLife’s question, I was reminded of how precise the olfactory system is at retrieving memories. I have always been highly sensitive to this. The smell of old damp wood reminds me of a replica settler’s ship at Charlestowne Landing where I had field trips as a kid, and as I smell it, it invokes other more distant memories that I can feel but barely grasp. And the smell of true myrrh and frankincense resin reminds me of being in the sanctuary at Catholic school, peeking behind the confessional and generally going into places I shouldn’t have been.

What are some olfactory stimuli for you, and what do they remind you of?
