When feeding my ferret real meat - are there guidelines (raw, cooked, fat content)?

Asked by whattodowhattodo (155points) March 3rd, 2011

I just adopted a ferret from a friend who found the poor thing in a cat carrier on the backseat of her car when she got out of work on Monday! My husband has always wanted one, “Puck” is clearly well socialized and healthy, it was an easy decision to add him to our family. I want him to be as healthy as possible and I understand that ferrets are strict carnivores. While I am not willing to provide live mice and baby chicks for him devour (he wouldn’t be kissing ME with that mouth) I am willing to provide chicken livers, eggs, meat, etc. I just don’t know whether the livers need to be cooked or raw, am assuming the eggs should be cooked and whether table meat (such as pork, beef, etc.) would be alright as long as it was without seasoning or sauce. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as well as suggestions on which food might keep his poops to a minimal odor (he bunks in my room:)) Thanks so much, Kris
