Is there a way to directly type Arabic characters into Google Translate?

My wife teaches at a middle school and she has a new student from Iraq who speaks almost no English.
My wife has written out questions for this kid in English and translated it into Arabic using Google translate. The child has responded to this very well.
Now my wife wants to let this girl type her assignments in Arabic characters into Google Translate and then convert that into English.

How can she do this?

Any other suggestions about overcoming this problem using another solution is also welcome.
