Preparation or Self defense tactics in a civic disobedience (protest) situation?

Recently, I’ve become increasingly involved in situations of civic disobedience, where there will be confrontations with the police.

I’m specifically looking for links to comprehensive online resources – (websites, manuals) of things to be aware of in a protest situations.

But any wisdom gleaned from experience is also welcome. It can be anything; from dressing safely; to what to do when hit by pepper spray; to legal consequences; documentation, dealing with mainstream media, etc, etc…

I’d like to be as prepared as possible before entering the fray….
