Why are the rebels in Libya more deserving of military aid than the civilians in Darfur?

Why do you suppose when civilians in Darfur were getting slaughtered and raped the US did not want to commit any kind of military aid but are willing to do so in Libya? What makes the Libyans more worthy of support from billions of dollars in military machinery than the people in Darfur?
