Why do I get emails claiming I signed up for notices on acne treatment?

It isn’t just Proactiv, but I get other emails from companies saying that since I signed up for information on their products they are complying. But I have never signed up for information on acne medications. How and why does this happen? My inbox is jammed with advertisements each morning from various companies claiming I asked for their information.
