How impersonally personal are we these days?

I’m working on my sociology research project and am pondering this. Do you like posting some detail about your day on Facebook and indirectly telling everyone you’re friends with something personal? I occasionally see people I am friends with on Facebook while I’m out and about and we just kind of nod and say hey. We aren’t close by any means, and yet if I’m bored, I might look through their picture albums. Is it like this with you? Do you like it? The more I think about it the less I do. It seems weird to me.
