Opinions on best bang for the buck in a new truck?

Well, my 15 year old compact truck is becoming a bit of a maintenance problem and I am thinking about putting the old girl out to pasture. So, I’m considering what to replace her with.

I’m looking for opinions on the best bang for the buck in a truck (compact or full sized). Need to consider gas mileage as well as towing and hauling capacity. It also needs the capability to seat 4. The back seat doesn’t have to be luxurious, but those little jump seats in some compact truck models are out. Long term reliability is also a factor.
