Why are so many companies setting up facebook pages?

Do we seriously need to be able to follow Mc Donalds on facebook? and why would anyone visit any companies facebook page? isn’t it obvious they are just after your money?

It’s like subscribing to spammers or favoriting popups, WTF?!
