Are birthdays evenly distributed throughout the year or are there months with higher statistical incidence of birthdays?

There seem to be lots of birthdays in the spring. Why? Are people going on vacation in August and conceiving lots of babies in their free time? Or is my sample of friends’ birthdays misleading? Does anyone know if there are more babies born in any given month in the U.S., or is it pretty evenly divided?
