How often do you defecate, that is, go #2?

I ask because I had weight loss surgery, and one of the routine questions the doctor asks as a post-surgery follow up is “how often do you defecate?” He told me that the average person (not one with weight loss surgery) goes every four days. This seems like less than I would expect the average person to go. I would think every day or every other day would be the norm. So I figured I’d ask Fluther and find out if he’s correct or if he’s off.
