Any suggestions for a zone 4 shrub rose that will repeat, smell nice, have no thorns and resist Japanese beetles?

Or something that comes close? I love the Graham Thomas roses but they do not overwinter. The beetles arrive in July and stay all summer. However, hope springs eternal. I have already dug the hole and have the compost ready. I just planted two pink double knock-outs near-by, for the first time.
