I once handled cash, then inadvertently touched my mouth with my hands. Within an hour, my upper lip started to burn and swell. What do you think may have caused my lip to get irritated and swell up?

I know it was from touching my lips accidentally after handling some paper bills, but what was the physiological cause of it? Has anyone else ever experienced this before?
