Is it possible for me to put the sound peg back into my violin properly myself?

Due to the misadventure of one of my kids, my beloved old violin strings were loosened and the sound peg is rambling loose within. I am self taught, and love that old instrument dearly. I am also dead broke.
Can anyone help?
