US Travel Question: Eve layover in ATL or CHI?

We are faced with a evening layover either in Atlanta GA or Chicago IL coming back from the Carribbean. We will arrive late afternoon and have a pretty early morning flight the next day. This is an anniversary vacation, so the mood is romantic and the time of year is winter. Which city should we layover and any recommendations for restaurants or hotels? We’re West Coasters, and not really familiar with either city. Thanks in advance!
