How to style sideswept bangs?

Just over a week ago, I had my straight across bangs cut into sideswept bangs. I try to style them like most people do, but can’t get them to look right. If I use a thermal hairbrush to turn the hair under while blow-drying, they just end up falling straight into my eyes or they end up being too poofy. If I pin them back with a bobby pin while wet and let them dry that way, they will go to the side, but then they fall flat against my forehead. I want them to have just a little bit of volume. After spending hours trying to fix them each day, I’m almost ready to give up and go back to straight across bangs again. Can someone talk me down? What am I not doing that I should be?
