When installing MDF beadboard onto a wall that is presently tiled, do the tiles have to be removed first, or can the beadboard go on top of the tiles?

I want to put beadboard onto a bathroom wall. The beadboard will go halfway up the wall and have a chair rail on top of it. Right now, there are tiles halfway up the wall. The tiles are in good shape, adhered well.

Do the tiles have to be removed first, before the beadboard is put on, or can the beadboard be adhered over the tiles?
