I have heard many times where a dying person has "held out" until they saw or talked to those who were important to them. How can this be?

It happened with my Mom and many others that I know personally. With my Mom, she held out until she saw her one brother (she was one of eight and he was the one whom she was most worried about). After she saw all 8, she passed. Same day.
How can this be?
