Art lovers out there, have you noticed more and more artists doing encaustic painting lately?

I’ve noticed that word cropping up a lot lately at art exhibits and galleries. It seems like everywhere I go I see it now.Is this an art trend for some reason? If so, why? Is it as this website says, that new tools make the technique more exciting and/or accessible?

Is it because digital imagery is so readily available and people are using collage combined with encaustic technique?

I love the sculptural, textured, touch me look of it. In fact, one gallery I went to had to have signs all over next to every painting very politely telling people “please don’t touch!”

Have you seen any encaustics lately? What do you think of it?
