Why don’t ants attack the bee’s honey?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) October 8th, 2012

Why will ants attack my honey in the cabinet (if they discover it there) but they don’t attack the honey at the source; the hive? It can’t be that they are afraid or in danger of getting stung to death, they are too small. What keeps the ants from attacking that hanging vat of honey that ants in a pack 3 in deep and 8 ft wide could not eat up?
