Will a Blu Ray disc play on a regular DVD player and what quality image would be produced?

I was looking at the Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter release, and it has a standard DVD and a Blu Ray version. The Blu Ray version has some additional info on it. But my DVD is not a Blu Ray player. Would it still play? Not that this will affect mankind anytime soon, but I was curious how it works.
