How do you get a song un-stuck from your brain?

I’m sure you’ve had a song stuck in your head that won’t go away. How do you get rid of it? Do you let it run its course and leave on its own terms? Do you replace it with another song?

I was visiting my Mom a few hours ago. I did my Ethel Merman impersonation for her, belting “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” at the top of my lungs. Mom thought I was hilarious, and we both had a good laugh and a great time.

Now, Ethel Merman is playing nonstop in my brain, and rather loudly at that. It’s very annoying!!! How can I clear my mind and return Miss Merman to the show-tunes archives?

(Aw…maybe I should simply cherish those lovely moments with my Mom.)
