Need help on picking a wall color/wallpaper?

I’m thinking of remodeling the house—starting with my room. I’m intrigued by the grandeur of old-fashioned furniture. (Victorian, Baroque, etc) Not set on one specific type. I love the beauty and elegance of such furniture. Anyway, I figured I should start with my walls, because the room is a combination of a blue wall, and the rest is..this unbecoming yellowish-creamy shade, I believe. Anyway, this combination of colors makes my room look quite gloomy. I simply can’t find the perfect color. Actually, I’d personally prefer it if I were to buy a wallpaper, I just can’t think of any specific ideas. I want the wallpaper to be simple and elegant. Can you think of nice curtains to go with whatever wall you suggest?

It doesn’t have to be a wallpaper per se, it can also be a wall decoration/structure. I don’t really know how to describe that stuff.
I also need wall for the bathroom.

Basically, I want something to lighten up the room a little, but in an old-fashioned manner.

PS: Wall murals are beautiful right? Anyway that’s definitely beside the point because murals require a huge space.
