Have you heard that when sleeping infants smile it's just gas? What do you think causes it?

For years when I’d comment on a baby’s smile while sleeping someone would chime in and say , “it’s just gas.” I have never believed that; I think they’re dreaming of something pleasant. I wish to think they’re smiling about something that happened before they were born but that’s hard to believe.
What is your opinion of an infant’s smile when asleep?
